SYNK! begins with a single player picking a card.

They reveal to the room the FIRST letter of the secret word (in this example, the letter A).

The aim of the game is for all OTHER players to uncover each letter and reveal the word on the card.

How? By thinking of a word - any word - that begins with the letter that has just been revealed. It can be anything, an object, a city, a first name, the name of a song, an action…You get the gist!

Once a player thinks they have a good enough word, they shout-out “I’VE GOT ONE!”, and proceed to describe their word to the room.

When describing their word, the player can rely on everyone’s general knowledge, or exploit a fact they believe a specific player will know.

Once another player (except the one with the card) thinks they know what word is being described, they shout “SYNK!”

Both payers countdown together “3, 2, 1”, and shout-out in hopes of getting a match.

Managed to SYNK! your word with the other player (like above)?

Then the SECOND letter of the secret word is revealed (in this case, the letter N).

Now you have to think of a new word that starts with the FIRST AND SECOND letter of the word on the card (in this case, AN). Try to SYNK! again to uncover the THIRD letter, and so on.

Did the player with the card guess your word? (that's right, when the countdown’s up they can guess too!) Or you weren’t able to SYNK!? Then the next letter isn’t revealed and the game doesn’t progress. Go back to thinking of a new word - be extra sneaky with your description - and try to SYNK! again to reveal the next letter.

The game will get increasingly more challenging as you uncover more letters and build the secret word.

HOW DO YOU WIN? The first player to guess the secret word - regardless of how many letters have been revealed - and SYNK! it with another player - wins the card and picks a new one from the deck.

Guessed the secret word but didn’t manage to SYNK! it? Then the player with the card wins the round!

ONE LAST THING: If a game reaches a standstill with no players able to guess the Secret Word, the player with the card must reveal the secret word’s definition.

Once the definition has been read out loud and clear, any player can yell “SYNK!” and shout-out their guess IMMEDIATELY! Each player can only guess once, so be sure before you shout-out “SYNK!”. The player to guess the word first wins the round and picks the next card with a new secret word. If no-one guesses the word, the player with the card wins the round.

The first player to collect 3 cards wins the whole game!

And that’s how you play SYNK!, the party game of weird, wild, wonderful words!

Additional Rules:

  • Once you’ve shouted-out a word after a countdown, that word - and any variation of it - cannot be repeated again until a new card is in play. If 2 players didn’t SYNK!, both words (or 3 if the player with the card also shouted-out something different!) cannot be repeated.

  • The same player cannot shout “I’VE GOT ONE!” more than twice in a row.

  • The player with the card NEVER SHOUTS-OUT THEIR SECRET WORD. If they think someone has guessed the secret word, they say nothing at the end of a countdown.

  • If no player shouts “SYNK!” after 30 seconds of a word being described, any player is allowed to shout “I’VE GOT ONE!” again and describe a new word.

  • Finally, If 2 players SYNK! with the correct word but the tenses they used didn’t match (e.g. one said “transcribed” while the other said “transcribing”) - or a player shouted the verb rather than the adjective and vice versa (e.g. one said “subdue” while the other said “subdued”)  - it still counts as a match and the game progresses as normal. This also goes for a player guessing the secret word, but as an adjective or in a different verb tense.
